What Enverge foam actually does

Sprayed as a liquid, it expands into the shape it is given and cures bonded to the substrate. Every practical advantage comes from that one property.

Self-bonds to steel, concrete and timber

It grips as it cures. No fixings, no penetrations through the deck, and no rails running cold straight through the insulation line.

Insulates and air-seals in one pass

It fills what a board cannot be cut to fit — ribs, rafter junctions, service penetrations. The insulation and the air barrier are the same material, applied at the same time.

Closed cell adds structure

Nexseal LE cures rigid at 78 kPa and adds racking strength to the frame it is sprayed into, while resisting liquid water and vapour at µ 62.

Open cell absorbs sound

Sucraseal is soft and vapour-open, with sound absorption around NRC 0.70 at 100 mm — the better answer between rooms and floors, paired with an AVCL.

The Enverge range

Closed cell and open cell are not interchangeable. Vapour strategy, structural contribution and acoustic performance decide it — and getting that wrong is what causes problems years later.

Nexseal LE

The flagship. Rigid, low-emission closed-cell foam that self-bonds to steel, concrete and timber, resists water, and adds racking strength to the frame it is sprayed into.

Soft, low-density and water-blown, with zero ozone depletion potential. It breathes, so it needs a vapour control layer on the warm side — and it is the better answer wherever sound matters.

ToughFoam

A high-density closed-cell foam for agricultural buildings and uninhabited storage. It meets ASTM E-84 Class A in its own right, so for those uses it needs no separate thermal barrier over the top.

The thermal barrier

DC315

Foam in an occupied space needs a thermal barrier. DC315 is a water-based intumescent coating from International Fireproof Technology — a separate manufacturer, not part of the Enverge range — and the product we specify over Enverge foam to reach BS 476 Part 7 Class 1.

ProFill, ToughFoam and OnePass figures are converted from the manufacturer’s ASTM data rather than declared to BS EN 14315-1, so treat them as indicative and ask for the current data sheet before you specify. Nexseal LE and Sucraseal figures are the declared TDS values.

Where the low λ earns its money. Nexseal LE reaches roughly the same U‑value at 100 mm that open-cell Sucraseal needs about 144 mm to reach. Where the depth exists, Sucraseal is often the better and cheaper answer — and it brings the acoustic performance with it. Where it does not, that 44 mm is the whole argument.

Open cell or closed cell — how to decide

This is a moisture decision before it is a thermal one. Thickness can fix a U‑value. Nothing fixes the wrong vapour behaviour in the wrong place.

Reach for open-cell Sucraseal when…

  • The construction is meant to breathe — a vapour-open build-up with an AVCL on the warm side.
  • Sound matters — NRC around 0.70 at 100 mm, between rooms and floors.
  • You have the depth to spend, between rafters or studs.
  • Weight matters — 12–24 kg/m³ adds almost nothing to an old structure.
  • The job is internal and not exposed to liquid water.

Reach for closed-cell Nexseal LE when…

  • Depth is limited and the U‑value still has to be hit.
  • The foam has to resist water — roofs, soffits, piling, below ground.
  • The element wants structural help — 78 kPa, adding racking strength.
  • You want the insulation to act as its own vapour control layer at µ 62.
  • It is exposed to weather during the build.

Stop and ask first if…

  • The foam will be left exposed in an occupied space — a DC315 thermal barrier is normally required, driven by the fire strategy.
  • You are putting a vapour-resistant foam on the cold side. Assess condensation risk to BS 5250.
  • The building is domestic and mortgaged. Lenders and surveyors ask specific questions about foam in roofs.
  • The roof is asbestos cement — it changes the method, not just the material.
  • Someone has quoted a certificate for the foam. Read the section below before you rely on it.

Certification — and what we do not claim

Spray foam attracts more certification confusion than anything else we sell. Here is the position in plain terms, because getting this wrong costs people mortgages and sign-offs.

What the evidence actually is

  • BS EN 14315-1 — declared thermal conductivity. The figures on this page for Nexseal LE and Sucraseal are declared TDS values, nothing converted or borrowed.
  • BS 476 Part 7 — Class 1, achieved by the foam coated with DC315.
  • BS EN 12086 — water vapour resistance, µ 62 for Nexseal LE.
  • ICC-ES ESR-3702 — the listing for DC315.
  • Greenguard Gold — indoor air quality, Nexseal LE.
  • A manufacturer-backed warranty, never insurance-backed.

On certification — read this carefully

  • Enverge: performance manufacturer-declared to I.S. EN 14315-1, CE marked — no third-party certificate is claimed, on any building type.
  • On Enverge projects the evidence is the declared BS EN 14315-1 values, the fire testing above, and the warranty.
  • If a supplier quotes a certificate, ask for the number and read whose name and what scope is on it. It is often not what the sales sheet implied.

Two warranties, two companies — and we keep them straight

A supply-and-fit job produces two separate documents. It matters, because they cover different things and are claimed against differently.

Covers the product — that the foam meets the specification on its Technical Data Sheet. Issued whether Duratite installed it or supplied it to your own applicator.

Duratite’s approved installer

Covers the installation — thickness, adhesion, coverage and detailing. Exists only where Duratite’s approved installer carried out the work.

All Duratite warranties are manufacturer-backed, never insurance-backed. A supply-only order receives the material warranty alone. The exact term depends on the product and the specified build-up, and is confirmed in writing with your specification before you order — and both depend on the QA record from stage five.

What is the difference between Nexseal LE and Sucraseal?
Nexseal LE is rigid closed-cell foam at 0.027 W/m·K — it resists water, adds racking strength to the frame it is sprayed into, and at depth acts as its own vapour control layer at µ 62. Sucraseal is soft, water-blown open-cell foam at 0.039 W/m·K — vapour permeable, so it needs an AVCL on the warm side, and the better answer wherever sound matters.
Who makes Enverge?
Enverge is manufactured in Spring, Texas, USA. Duratite supplies Enverge in Ireland — holding stock, writing the specifications, training applicators and administering the warranty.
How is Enverge performance evidenced?
Enverge performance is manufacturer-declared to I.S. EN 14315-1 (CE marked); no third-party certificate is claimed. On Enverge work the evidence is the declared BS EN 14315-1 values, the BS 476 Part 7 fire testing with DC315, and the manufacturer-backed warranty.
Does spray foam need a thermal barrier?
In occupied spaces, yes. We specify DC315, a water-based intumescent coating from International Fireproof Technology, over the cured foam — that is the build-up that reaches BS 476 Part 7 Class 1. ToughFoam is the exception: it meets ASTM E-84 Class A in its own right, so in agricultural and uninhabited buildings it needs no separate barrier.
What thickness of Enverge foam do I need?
It comes from the U‑value the project has to hit. On a metal deck, Nexseal LE at 100 mm gets you near 0.26 W/m²K where open-cell Sucraseal would need around 144 mm for the same figure. Send us the build-up and the target and we will confirm the product and thickness free of charge.
Does Enverge foam need mechanical fixings?
No. It is spray-applied and self-bonds to steel, concrete and timber as it cures. Nothing penetrates the deck and there are no rails to thermally bridge the insulation.
How much does one set cover?
A Nexseal set yields approximately 10,000 m² × mm of applied foam — 100 m² at 100 mm, or 200 m² at 50 mm. Sucraseal, being far lower density, yields roughly 40,000 m² × mm. Allow around 10% on top for site loss. The calculator above does the arithmetic.
What warranty comes with Enverge?
Two separate documents on a supply-and-fit job. The material warranty, up to 25 years, covers the product against its Technical Data Sheet and is issued by Duratite. Where Duratite’s approved installer carries out the installation, a separate workmanship warranty covers it. A supply-only order gets the material warranty alone. All are manufacturer-backed, never insurance-backed.
Is Enverge foam vapour open or vapour tight?
Depends which one. Nexseal LE has a water vapour resistance factor of µ 62 and meets one perm or less at 40.6 mm, so it behaves as a vapour control layer at depth. Sucraseal is vapour permeable and must be paired with an AVCL on the warm side. Condensation risk should be assessed to BS 5250 either way.
Can I buy Enverge foam supply-only?
Yes. Duratite holds stock in Ireland and delivers nationwide, batch-traceable, with the data sheets and safety data. Supply-only orders receive the material warranty. If you would rather we installed it, we do that too.
