Aircraft Hangar Condensation: How to Protect Your Aircraft

Condensation in aircraft hangars is more than an inconvenience — it is a direct threat to aircraft. Water dripping from uninsulated steel roofs causes airframe corrosion, paint damage, avionics failures and increased maintenance costs. For hangar owners and operators, eliminating condensation is a critical investment in protecting valuable assets.

Why Hangars Get Condensation

Most hangars have single-skin corrugated metal or cement fibre roofing with no insulation. The large roof area acts as a massive cold surface. When warm air rises and contacts the cold roof, moisture condenses and channels along the corrugation valleys, dripping in concentrated lines directly onto aircraft below.

The Solution

Closed-cell spray foam applied to the underside of the hangar roof eliminates condensation by raising the internal surface temperature above the dew point and providing a vapour barrier. The foam bonds to corrugated metal, asbestos cement and cement fibre roofing, following every ridge and valley with zero gaps.

Installation is done bay-by-bay using boom lifts — aircraft can remain in adjacent bays during the work. Most hangar roofs are completed within 3-7 days depending on size.
